A site data breach is when a server is compromised, and the data is taken by bad guys. Often this data is then sold or released to other bad guys. You've no doubt heard in the news about this company or that having its' data "made available"
It is not a matter of IF a site will be breached, but rather it's a question of WHEN a site will be breached. Eventually your data will be made available to people who you don't want to have it. But it isn't that your data is made available, the entire database is made available, and usually it includes the software required to read it. This is completely different from an attack which is directly aimed at one individual at a time.
Companies do everything they can to prevent both external and internal data breaches. And of course 3rdKey has a team of ciber-security people working to do just that, but we've taken security to the next level. We've figured out how to prevent the bad guys from reading your passwords even if they get hold of the database and the software required to read it.
Boring technical details follow
3rdKey encrypts your data including passwords with more than one encryption method. If someone has the database, and the software we use, they can read some of the information but not your password data.
In the event of a complete site breach, the bad guys will be able to read the data that we encrypt with our key like your user name, first name and email, but not the data that's encrypted with your keys like the passwords you've stored for all of your secure access accounts. Your specific passwords and account information for your bank access, shopping accounts, etc. are all encrypted using your keys
At 3rdKey, we're not focused on only preventing a site breach, but on how to prevent the bad guys from accessing your data even if they get hold of your data.
We don't store your first and second key.
Your first and second keys are combined to form an encryption key, we don't store that key either.
Most of your data with some exceptions is encrypted with your encryption keys, not ours.
If someone figures out the encryption keys for one of our customers, they have only got the data for that one customer. Each customer has their own encryption keys.
If our customers follow our instructions about how to set up their keys, it will take thousands of years for someone to figure out each customer's encryption keys.
